Dr. Cathie Apple is
an active performer, teacher and freelancer in Sacramento, where she has
founded and is a member of Citywater new music ensemble. She also
performs with baroque ensembles Camerata Capistrano and the Sacramento
Baroque Soloists, as well as with the Sacramento Choral Society and the
Academy at All Hallows Symphony Orchestra.
Previous
appointments include second flutist with the Las Vegas Philharmonic and
adjunct faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Southern Utah
University. While in Las Vegas, Cathie founded NEXTET new music
ensemble, and performed with them at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in
the summer of 2001.
Cathie earned her
Doctorate from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Amy
Porter. She also taught at Interlochen Arts Camp and was the yoga
instructor for Amy Porter’s Anatomy of Sound workshop.
In June 2008,
Cathie attended the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute in Toronto,
where she studied traverso with Claire Guimond. She has continued her
traverso studies with Louise Carslake.
Cathie is playing
on a Rod Cameron traverso, modeled after a Bressan from 1730’s London,
on loan from the San Francisco Early Music Society.
